Do you love yourself or loathe yourself? Here’s the following question: Are you honest about that first question?
Many people berate, belittle, and destroy the very person they should love the most, themselves. It’s like they are competing in a championship game to see who can ruin their inner self faster, and then they look for someone to give them a prize. The “joke’s on them” because, in the end, they are left more alone and depressed than ever before.
Is there a way to stop your inner critic from taking advantage of the mistakes that we all make and to shut off that negativity? My guest, Kathryn Remati, believes that there is a way. She wrote a book called “Befriend Yourself” about it.
This book guides moving into a path of purpose and contributing to world peace. It offers a roadmap to achieving unlimited health and happiness that includes journaling, prompts insight into the benefits of meditation, a self-love test, and tips on how to be more mindful and manage stress.
This is what Davidji, the world-renowned meditation teacher and author, says about this book:
“Kathryn Remati fearlessly shares the story of her heart's healing journey and helps us return to the memory of our wholeness. She compassionately guides us to hold up the mirror to ourselves, shine a light on the darkest areas of our lives, release the blockages that have held us back, and boldly step into our best expression. Kathryn is a kind, vulnerable, honest, and insightful guide, making the journey into our healing a beautiful and safe experience; I felt secretly held throughout every page of “Befriend Yourself,” a must-read on your path to emotional freedom and personal transformation.”
Loving ourselves is vital to attaining overall wellness, yet it can also be one of the hardest things to achieve while society bombards us with messages of needing to work harder and be better. It can be challenging to overcome limiting beliefs that we are not worthy and deserving of this loving care.
Thankfully, there are ways to achieve inner peace, fill our cups with self-love, and then spread that me-love around the world to create we-love.
“Befriend Yourself” is a mindfulness adventure that teaches how to unlearn patterns of self-loathing and uncover the overflowing love that already exists in all of us.
Self-love is not selfish or narcissistic. You must care for yourself to be there for everyone who depends on you. Remember what the Buddha said: “You, yourself, as much as anybody in the universe, deserve your love and affection.”
Kathryn shares personal anecdotes that help us relate to her examples of self-loathing versus self-love. She shares how she discovered meditation at the age of 16, living in Sydney, Australia, as a depressed teenager. She also shares moments from her marriage counseling that enlightened her, along with many books that encouraged her growth and increased self-awareness.
This book will show you how to contribute to world peace by becoming peaceful yourself. Self-love is the path to peace, and meditation is the tool to get there. You will learn a great deal about different types of meditation, and even though you don’t think you can do it,
Kathryn will find a way to access the peace that is always within.
Each chapter begins with a relevant Buddha quote and ends with a practical exercise to help you find peace. This book has been used by many therapists and given as a gift to best friends and loved ones. Make sure you provide it to your best friend—yourself!
